'float'
’float’ is innovating the way to display jewelry in a shop window. The design is based on a case study of the jeweler Stinne Holm. She runs her jewelry store at Nørrebro in Copenhagen, designing and making the pieces herself.
This jewelry-display works with the force of two pulling magnets, both trying to reach each other. The two magnets are placed with the exact distance, where they are both pulling, but not reaching, creating a gap between them, making them float in mid-air.
The starting point for this design, is the challenge of displaying jewelry because of their modest size. The display itself, can easily take focus away from the jewelry. I got to wonder about the piece of jewelry, wanting to place it in eyesight, floating alone in the air. In my attempt to create this floating jewelry, I got to experiment with magnetism. The work with magnets, gave me an opportunity to create curiosity and challenge the optics of what is expected to be possible.
